ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION STUDIES

Institute for Mental Health and Addiction Studies (formerly Harm Reduction Academy) promotes collaboration among mental health and addiction experts across various EU countries, with a particular focus on the Czech Republic and other Central and Eastern European countries. The institute emphasizes developing understanding and management of mental health issues and addiction through a multifaceted approach centered around education, research, and advocacy.

At the heart of IMHAS’s activities is education and raising awareness about mental health issues and addiction prevention. The institute organizes expert seminars, discussions, roundtables, and conferences aimed at connecting the scientific and academic communities with policymakers and the public. These events serve as platforms for exchanging the latest insights, strategies, and innovations in mental health and addiction, including harm reduction approaches, aiming to increase public awareness of effective prevention and treatment methods.

In addition to educational initiatives, IMHAS places significant emphasis on research and data collection. The institute participates in designing and conducting research projects focused on mental health and addiction. Our research endeavors aim to generate new data and insights that inform evidence-based practices and policies. By evaluating the effectiveness and impact of programs and services at national and European levels, we strive to optimize interventions for maximum benefit to individuals and groups facing mental health and addiction challenges.

The institute collaborates with other non-governmental and nonprofit organizations, as well as national and international bodies, to coordinate collective efforts, share best practices, and build a global network addressing mental health and addiction issues. Furthermore, IMHAS provides training and expertise to professionals to enhance their capacity and knowledge in this field.

These activities underpin our commitment to improving the lives of individuals and communities through innovative, evidence-based approaches to mental health support and addiction prevention.
